Maguire Centre: Medical & Social Geriatric Out-patient Programs

Providence Place The goal of these programs is to enable people at risk of institutionalization to continue living in their own homes by providing assistance and support to the clients and their primary caregivers.

The Medical Program (known as the Maguire Centre Medical Program) provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to the clients to enable them to reach and maintain their maximum level of independence. The Providence Place multidisciplinary team typically provides services to individuals with chronic illness or disability, or to those requiring shorter term rehabilitation.

Medical Program clients are referred by their physician, followed by an assessment. An individualized plan of care is developed that may include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, aquatherapy, social work services, personal hygiene care, speech therapy, nutritional therapy and education, socialization and entertainment, meals and snacks, exercise and conditioning.

The Social Program (known as the Maguire Centre Social Program) serves those who benefit from social and recreational opportunities, people who are cognitively impaired and their at-home caregivers who need respite and support. Clients receive nursing supervised care, entertainment and activities, personal hygiene care, socialization, exercise, meals and snacks and individual and/or family counselling as necessary. Referrals to the Maguire Centre Social Program may be self-initiated or by family members, physicians, or other health care workers.
